Keep Simpson County Beautiful will host The Great Simpson County Cleanup on Saturday, April 25, in conjunction with America250.
Volunteers will gather at stations at 8 a.m. and wrap up by 3 p.m.
Five sites throughout the county will be manned during the collection period. Each volunteer will receive gloves, trash grabbers, bags and a tee shirt. Executive Director Karen Moseley asks those who participate in the cleanup to document with before and after photos.
The five location sites are Braxton Community Center; Harrisville Public Works next to the Water Department; Army National Guard, Magee; SC Sheriff’s Office, Mendenhall; and Pinola Fire Station. Moseley said no household garbage is to be picked up only litter.
Main Street Magee is also working with Keep Simpson County Beautiful this year hosting a pick up site at Ural Everett Park beginning at 9 a.m. For information specific to this site contact Tiffany Kinslow at 601-382-1179.
Moseley said last year that it is imperative to teach children to take pride in the community and care for the world in which they live, “taking care of God’s earth. It starts with us adults to set the example to say we don’t want it to look like this.” She still holds to this thought. In addition, the Great Simpson County Cleanup provides an opportunity for significant community service hours for high school students in need of them.
