Simpson County is getting into the Halloween spirit with a full lineup of family-friendly events in Magee, Mendenhall, and surrounding communities. From trunk-or-treats to hayrides and live music, there will be no shortage of treats—or tricks—this week.
Mendenhall’s annual Trunk or Treat on Main Street will take place on Friday, October 31, beginning at 7 p.m. This popular event also marks the final Friday Nights on Main gathering of the season. Main Street will be lined with decorated cars offering candy to children, and live music will be provided by Vintage 601. The event is free to the public, and participants are encouraged to decorate their vehicles and bring plenty of candy to share.
Traditional house-to-house trick-or-treating in Mendenhall will also take place that evening from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Meanwhile, the City of Magee will observe Halloween a day earlier, on Thursday, October 30, with trick-or-treating hours set from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. To ensure safety for families, a city block—2nd Avenue from 5th Street to Choctaw Street—will be closed to through traffic during those hours.
Downtown Magee will also host Treat Street, sponsored by Main Street Magee, on Thursday, October 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. The evening promises “fall fun, safe trick-or-treating, and community spirit,” with plenty of activities for children and families. Highlights include:
• Trick-or-treating with local businesses
• Food trucks, a Kids Zone, and a hayride through town
Wristbands are $5 per child for entry and candy, with optional hayrides available for $3 with a wristband or $5 without. Unlimited play in the Kids Zone requires a $10 wristband. All proceeds support the Main Street Magee Revitalization Fund.
First Baptist Church will be hosting Story Street, a journey through the greatest story ever told, on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 6-8 p.m. Kids and families will enjoy walking through live-action scenes from the bible with candy and treats along the way!
Adding to the festive atmosphere, The Magee Courier will be handing out free candy bags at its Main Street office during trick-or-treat hours on Thursday November 30. Families are invited to stop by, snap a photo in costume, and grab some candy while supplies last.
For a heartwarming twist on Halloween fun, Hillcrest Nursing Center, located at 1401 1st Avenue NE, will host a free Trunk or Treat on October 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. Residents will be dressed in costume as they pass out candy, and the event will include food, fun, and fellowship for kids of all ages. Local businesses and residents are welcome to join in by decorating their vehicles—setup begins at 5 p.m. Candy donations are also being accepted in the Hillcrest lobby, and anyone with questions can contact the activity department at 601-849-0384.
As Halloween approaches, these local events across Simpson County promise a mix of community spirit, fun, and festive fright. Costumes are encouraged, candy baskets are filling fast, and the fall air is perfect for celebrating.
Mark your calendars and enjoy a safe and spirited Halloween!
