The Simpson Academy girls basketball team was recognized Thursday at the Mississippi State Capitol for its state championship season, receiving honors in both chambers of the state legislature.
The team was welcomed by Senator Andy Berry and Representative Price Wallace, who invited the players, coaches, and supporters to the Capitol to celebrate their accomplishment.
During the visit, the Lady Cougars were formally recognized in the Mississippi State Senate and the Mississippi House of Representatives, where lawmakers applauded the team’s hard work, dedication, and success on the court.
Berry and Wallace presented the team with an official proclamation commending them for winning the state title and representing Simpson County with excellence. The proclamation highlighted the team’s commitment, sportsmanship, and the pride they brought to their school and community throughout the season.
Players and coaches had the opportunity to meet legislators, tour the historic Capitol building, and be publicly acknowledged for their achievement.
Both lawmakers praised the team not only for their athletic success but also for the example they set for younger students across the region.
The recognition at the Capitol marked a memorable conclusion to a championship season for the Lady Cougars, as the team was honored on a statewide stage for its accomplishments.
