A Simpson County man has been arrested and charged in a shooting that left a young Mendenhall woman critically injured and sparked outrage from her family and supporters.
Curtis Hubbard was taken into custody on November 25 and is facing three counts of aggravated assault, malicious mischief, and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
The charges stem from a November 19 incident in which authorities say Hubbard opened fire on a vehicle, injuring Ashlee Boyles. She was airlifted to a Jackson hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Boyles’ family said she survived a gravely serious wound and has continued to recover in the days since the shooting. Her mother described the past week as agonizing, marked by fear, uncertainty, and frustration over how long Hubbard remained at large. She said the family feared the suspect could harm someone else while her daughter fought for her life.
The arrest early last Tuesday brought a wave of relief for Boyles’ family, who credited the broad community support and consistent prayers offered for Ashlee over the past several days.
They said her condition is improving and they continue to ask for prayers as Boyles faces what is expected to be a long road to recovery.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the investigation, but Hubbard remains in custody as the case proceeds.
