The Mendenhall Mayor and Board of Aldermen recently met for their regularly scheduled meeting. The meeting progressed quickly as the board approved the mayor, aldermen, police chief, and city clerk to attend their respective upcoming winter conferences.
The board also approved the use of the Mendenhall Armory as the distribution location for the Toys for Tots campaign.
Board minutes and financial reports were all approved after brief discussion. The board also approved the hiring of Haley Harper as a part-time dispatcher with the Mendenhall Police Department.
A discussion concerning the easement for the water line was tabled until next month. A deal to use Simpson County School property to connect the new water tower on Highway 43 to the city’s water system has been discussed for months. The project is currently at a standstill as the city monitors the cost of supplies.
Mayor Todd Booth briefly stated that he did not feel good about the proposal offered by the school district and that the city is looking into other avenues to connect the water line. Alderman Robert Mangum added an amendment to discuss Nick Floyd and Associates, but tabled the discussion until the next regularly scheduled meeting. Nick Floyd & Associates received approval from the board to offer life insurance to city employees last month.
The board entered executive session to discuss personnel before adjourning the meeting. Kathy Brien was recently hired as the new City Clerk.
