The Simpson County Sheriff’s Department has named Michael Payne as their Top Cop.
Payne received the award for his dedication to the job and outstanding performance. The Top Cop award is presented every year by the MS Crime Stoppers Association, usually during the week of the police memorial in May, to the officer who has made significant contributions to the department or community. Each agency nominates an officer at the recommendation of its chief or sheriff.
Payne has been with the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office for over four years. He began working with the organization as a reserve deputy and later transitioned to full-time. Sheriff Paul Mullins said, “Deputy Payne has been proactive in fighting crime, and does an excellent job. He really loves this community and cares about the people.”
