Magee High School introduced new head coach and athletic director Chuck Maxie last Friday at a public meeting.
Principal Bill Broadhead stated that Maxie has been a part of several successful high school programs and has coached collegiately on the junior college level.
Broadhead explained that District Athletic Director Dr. Bo Huffman, Assistant Principal Dr. Maron Lacey, Lead Teacher Audarshia Flagg, and Gregory Maddox assisted in the interview process for coaching candidates. The team vetted and researched all applicants and believed Maxie was the right person for the job. Broadhead said that Maxie coached at MHS in the past and understands what Magee High School is about.
Maxie was joined by his fiancé as he addressed the crowd. He said, “It is a privilege and an honor to be selected to be the head football coach and athletic director for Magee High school and continue the traditions of the program.”
Maxie said he is grateful for the opportunity and thanked the Lord for blessing him to be in this position and the administration for their vote of confidence. He intends to get to work immediately and continue the hard-working traditions that MHS has already established.
Maxie said, “My goal is to coach these young men and put them in a position to be successful on the field. Along the way I hope I can teach them about being young men and the value of hard work in society today.”
Maxie reiterated the importance of hard work and said he plans on the Magee Trojans winning quite a few games. His message to the players was come prepared to work and get things done. He thanked the parents in attendance for allowing him to coach their children and promised that he would coach them hard but love them too.
In closing Maxie said, “Go Big Red! Let’s get it done.”
