The Mendenhall Tigers won their home opener against Raleigh 17-5 thanks to a stellar pitching performance from Parker Eichwurtzle and an offensive onslaught at the plate. The Tigers recorded 12 hits and 5 stolen bases to run rule the Lions in the fifth inning. Eichwurtzle pitched four innings striking out 6 batters. Eichwurtzle was also 2 of 3 at the plate with two doubles and 5 RBIs. Tylan Collins, Cameron Smith, Jeremiah Magee, and Victor Davis all recorded multiple hits during the game.
It was the first win for first year head coach Mat Turner and the Tigers this season.
Turner said, “It always feels good to win. It’s the first one, we’ve been close but it’s good to finally get that first win.”
Turner said his team has improved each week and he was proud of how they performed.
He said, “We had a better approach at the plate. We’ve been striking our way too much, and with the athletic ability and speed we have the message we’ve been preaching is put the ball in play and put pressure on people. We did that tonight.”
The Tigers will face Florence at home on Friday February 23 at 7:00 p.m.
