The Magee Trojans and Mendenhall Tigers faced off against each other in a volleyball match last week.
Both teams came prepared to play, but it was the Magee Trojans that emerged victorious. The Trojans won in straight sets and looked dominant. They were able to jump out to early leads in all three matches and poured on the pressure throughout the series.
The Trojans were successful thanks to their servers. The Tigers struggled to return serves from the Trojans led by Payton Dixon, who played an outstanding game. Dixon served up five aces in a row during the closeout game of the series. She also did an excellent job protecting the net.
Dixon’s head coach, Sydney Henderson, said, “Payton was locked in. She is one of our more skilled players and she is very encouraging, and I know that she tries her best and works at home.”
It was a hard-fought victory for the Trojans, who struggled early in the season but are starting to turn things around.
Coach Henderson said, “I told my girls that if they keep their attitudes up and stay positive that score is going to go up and we proved that.”
When asked about the season she said, “The season has been on the rise. We have been picking it up out of the mud. I am a new coach, but I know what these girls are capable of and I know what they bring.”
Henderson said she has emphasized serves this season and it has paid off. She also instills teamwork and having a positive attitude to her players.
When asked her expectation moving forward Henderson said, “It’s only up from here. We’re going to continue to work hard and reach for the sky.”
