At their latest meeting, the Magee Mayor and Board of Aldermen adopted a new liquor ordinance drafted by Board Attorney Wesla Sullivan in an effort to clarify hours for the sale of alcohol in restaurants.
Several months ago Sullivan contacted Mississippi Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) for assistance to design the new ordinance. In turn, ABC entered an order allowing Magee to extend its hours for restaurant liquor sales. Sale hours now are set at Monday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to midnight, with the exception of New Year’s Eve that extends to 1 a.m. These hours apply only to liquor sales for restaurants with consumption on site; grocery, convenience and liquor stores are not included.
Restaurant caterers licensed to sell liquor may do so during the same hours.
According to Sullivan, this new ordinance combined five prior ones into one document providing clarity, especially for restaurants serving alcohol.
Under state law the regulations for the sale of beer, light wine and spirits in a restaurant is the same as for alcohol.
