The Magee Consolidated McLaurin Vocational Attendance Center committee received a $10,000 donation from the City of Magee to help with restoration efforts to the McLaurin Vocational Attendance Center.
Determined to keep the spirit of McLaurin alive, a dedicated group of former students and teachers formed the nonprofit Magee Consolidated McLaurin Vocational Attendance Center (MC-MVAC). With a mission to preserve the heritage and continue serving the community, the group has made significant progress in restoring the facility.
Through grants, donations, and hands-on labor, MC-MVAC has embraced the challenge. The organization’s current efforts include the restoration of the former Magee Elementary School gymnasium and classroom buildings—now recognized as Mississippi Landmarks. Once restored, these spaces will house a museum and serve as a hub for educational programs, community resources, and youth development activities.
MC-MVAC also runs initiatives that bridge generational gaps, distribute school supplies, and award scholarships. These programs cultivate community pride, empower residents, and create a lasting sense of belonging.
Leading the charge are officers Earnest Jaynes (President), Patricia Trunnell (Vice President), Anika Floyd (Executive Director), Kim Jackson (Secretary), Luvenia Banks (Treasurer), and Charles Funches (Chaplain).
For the MC-MVAC committee, this is more than a renovation—it is a revival of history, identity, and purpose.
