Magee Police Chief Denis Borges met with a group of about 45 residents and businessmen and women early Tuesday morning, October 15. In his first meet and greet he shared some of his visions and goals for the Magee Police Department.
One of his major themes was officer training and its necessity to the stability and effectiveness of his police officers. Borges said some of his best training occurred when he was a school resource officer for five years. His requirement for police officers’ training is no less than 40-80 hours yearly.
In addition, Borges said that cronyism, or the old boy network, will have no place in the Magee PD. He added that he plans to hire only the best officers. While two officers have left since Borges took over, he has hired five part-time patrol officers and one full time patrol officer. He has plans to hire another K-9 officer in the future as well.
He also addressed the rumor that he has been sued, which he said is incorrect. He said he wants Magee residents to know he has reopened the Bradley Lott case.
Borges said that he wants the community to feel safe, and towards that end he stated that “transparency is imperative.”
He also urged that residents should “say something if they see something.”
