The City of Mendenhall’s Board of Aldermen convened for its regular meeting, addressing a range of financial, administrative, and public safety matters.
The board unanimously approved the February 2025 financial reports, including revenue and expense statements, paid and unpaid claims, and meter refunds. A total of $829,868.92 in paid claims and $76,316.19 in unpaid claims were approved, alongside minor meter refunds amounting to $80.00.
The board agreed to sponsor a table for the Mendenhall Area Chamber of Commerce Banquet, scheduled for March 20, 2025. Alderwoman Judy Lee and Alderwoman Vickie Everett temporarily exited the meeting due to a potential conflict of interest but returned after the decision was finalized.
The board approved City Clerk Latasha Millis' attendance at the upcoming Municipal Clerk Conference in Hattiesburg, MS, from April 9-11, 2025. The board approved payments from House Bill 603 funds to Solid Rock Transport Inc. ($564.78) and North Simpson Gravel ($1,400.00) for emergency water and sewer repairs on Highway 13.
Resolutions were passed to dispense with both the April 1, 2025, primary elections and the June 3, 2025, general election, as approved by the Democratic and Republican Executive Committees and the Election Commissioners.
A public hearing was held to address property cleanup at 115 West Bell Street. The board declared the property a safety hazard, imposing a $500 fine on owner Josie Lee, with a provision to waive the fine if cleanup is completed within two weeks.
The board approved Chief Alexander “Candy” McCullum's request for family medical leave. Additionally, the hiring of Charles J. Blachier as a full-time public works/grass crew member was ratified.
The meeting concluded with an executive session to discuss personnel matters, after which the board returned to open session with no further action required.
