Residents in a northwest Magee neighborhood were shaken early Tuesday morning after gunfire was directed into an occupied home, according to local authorities.
Chief Denis J. Borges of the Magee Police Department said officers responded to the incident around 2 a.m. on March 10 in the area of 9th Avenue NW in Magee.
“On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at approximately 2:00 a.m., a shooting occurred in the area of 9th Avenue NW,” Borges said in a statement. “An individual fired shots into an occupied residence. By the grace of God, no one was struck or injured.”
Police confirmed that investigators have already identified potential suspects, though no formal charges have been filed at this time.
“At this time, we have identified potential suspects, but no formal charges have been made yet,” Borges said. “Our diligent investigators have already responded and are actively working this case.”
Authorities also called in additional resources to assist with the investigation. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene Unit was contacted to help process the scene and collect evidence.
Borges stressed the seriousness of the incident, noting that the gunfire posed a direct threat to those inside the home.
“This was not just gunfire,” Borges said. “This was a direct threat to human life and to the peace of our city.”
He also delivered a strong message to those responsible.
“In Magee, if you choose to endanger innocent people, understand this,” Borges said. “We will hunt the truth, we will build the case, and we will come for justice with everything we have.”
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information related to the shooting is encouraged to contact the Magee Police Department.
