Simpson County Academy named John Shows as its new headmaster, following the departure of former Headmaster Nick Lee. The announcement marks a homecoming for Shows, a Simpson County native with over two decades of experience in education.
Shows, a graduate of Magee High School, returns to the area with an extensive background in school leadership. His career spans 26 years and includes roles as assistant principal, principal, and superintendent. His leadership experience and deep roots in the community made him an ideal choice to guide Simpson Academy.
In a statement, Shows expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity and a strong sense of connection to the school and its mission.
“It is with great excitement and a sense of gratitude that I join Simpson County Academy as your new headmaster,” Shows said. “I am honored to return to my roots in Simpson County, where I grew up and graduated from Magee High School. With 26 years of experience in education… I look forward to contributing to the continued success and growth of this exceptional school.”
Shows also shared personal details that reflect his ties to the community and his values. He and his wife, Arina, are the parents of a daughter, Angelina, who currently attends Mississippi State University. The family attends New Good Hope Church in Martinville, where Shows was raised.
“My faith is an integral part of my life,” he said. “Outside of work, I enjoy fishing, playing golf, and cheering on the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.”
Looking ahead, Shows said he is eager to work alongside Simpson Academy’s faculty, staff, students, and families to further the school’s mission.
“I am excited to… build on the strong foundation that has been established and to ensure our students’ success in academics, athletics, and character development. My dedication to excellence is my commitment to Simpson Academy. I look forward to meeting you all in the coming months.”
Shows says he is eager to get to work and further the mission and goals of Simpson County Academy.
