The Magee Trojans pulled off one of the most dramatic wins of the season Friday night, rallying from a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat the Jefferson Davis County Jaguars 36–35. The victory marked another gutsy performance for a Magee team that refused to back down against one of the state’s perennial powerhouses.
The Trojans came out strong in the first half, taking a 21–19 lead into the locker room behind an efficient offense and a determined defensive front. Senior running back Braeden Gregory continued to shine for Magee, keeping the Jaguars’ defense on its heels. Running back Ty Walker and the Trojans’ offensive line set the tone early, helping Magee move the ball effectively and control the tempo.
After halftime, Jefferson Davis County stormed back with a pair of rushing touchdowns and a two-point conversion, seizing a 35–21 lead early in the fourth quarter. The Jaguars appeared to have all the momentum, but the Trojans were far from finished.
Gregory ignited the comeback midway through the fourth quarter with a powerful rushing touchdown, cutting the deficit to 35–28 after Brady Fairchild nailed the extra point. Then, with just under two minutes left in regulation, Gregory struck again—capping the drive with another rushing score to bring the Trojans within one point.
Instead of settling for the tie, Magee head coach Chase Courtney made the bold call to go for two—and the Trojans delivered. The offense powered the ball across the goal line, giving Magee its first lead since the second quarter at 36–35.
The defense held strong in the final minutes, stopping the Jaguars’ last attempt to reclaim the lead and sealing the dramatic win in front of disappointed JDC fans.
With the victory, Magee improved to 5-1 and proved once again why they are among the most resilient teams in Class 3A football. Gregory’s leadership and late-game heroics, combined with the Trojans’ defensive grit, fueled a comeback that fans will remember for years to come.
The Trojans will look to carry that momentum into next week’s matchup against McLaurin as they celebrate Homecoming this Friday.
