The Magee Trojans came up just short Thursday night in a hard-fought battle against the Seminary Bulldogs, falling 30–27 to end the regular season.
Despite a valiant second-half effort and multiple touchdowns from senior running back Braeden Gregory, the Trojans could not overcome key miscues that swung momentum in the Bulldogs’ favor down the stretch.
Magee opened strong after Seminary struck first, responding with a determined drive capped by a rushing touchdown from Gregory midway through the second quarter. Kicker Brady Fairchild added the extra point to tie the game at 7–7, where the score remained into the second quarter.
The Trojans briefly took the lead after quarterback Travon Magee connected with Gregory on a 55 yard touchdown pass with about six minutes remaining in the half. But Seminary answered just before the break, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to even the score at 13–13 and then pulling ahead with a successful extra point, taking a 14–13 halftime lead.
A critical turning point came early in the third quarter when Seminary returned a punt for a touchdown, extending the margin. The Bulldogs surged ahead 30–13 after a 16 point third quarter before Magee battled back.
Gregory powered in another rushing touchdown in the fourth, and the Trojans’ special teams converted to trim the deficit to 30–20. The offense kept the pressure on in the fourth quarter, adding a late passing touchdown to pull within three points, 30–27, in the final minutes. But Seminary’s defense held firm on Magee’s final drive, sealing the narrow victory.
Travon Magee threw for over 100 yards and two touchdowns, while Gregory led the ground game with multiple scores and over 150 total yards of offense. Fairchild was perfect on extra points, keeping the Trojans within striking distance throughout the night.
The loss brought Magee to a 6-3 regular season record going 2-2 in district play. The Trojans will enter the playoffs as a third seed and travel during the first round to face the Quitman Panthers.
Despite the tough loss, the Trojans showed resilience and offensive balance that will be crucial as they enter the playoffs.
