The Magee Trojans are on a roll as they stack up back-to-back wins with a 50-6 win over the Yazoo City Indians last Friday.
The Trojans set the tone early defensively by shutting down the Indians and scoring. They took a 7-0 lead into the second quarter when they began to fire on all cylinders.
Quarterback Tristian Newsome was impressive in the pocket. He found Kyerston Tucker early in the second quarter for a touchdown to push their lead to 14-0 following a made PAT by Gavyn Chafin. Moments later Demichael Green scored a rushing touchdown to push the lead to 21-0.
The Trojan defenders made big plays all night. Tylan Benson made a good read on the ball and intercepted the Indians’ quarterback midway through the second quarter to give his team the ball back.
With four minutes to go in the second quarter the Indians scored their only touchdown on a completed pass to make the score 6-21. Braeden Gregory responded with a rushing touchdown on the next drive to give the Trojans a 28-6 lead. The Indians tried to respond but big plays from Chris Dinkins with a sack and an interception by Gavin Drones saw the Trojans take a 28-6 lead into halftime.
Following halftime, the Trojans turned up the intensity and broke the Indians’ spirit. Braeden Gregory scored a rushing touchdown early in the third quarter to push the score to 35-6. Gavin Drones recorded his second interception of the game which set up a Demichael Green touchdown pass from Tristian Newsome. The Trojans led 42-6 at the end of the third quarter. Midway through the fourth quarter Green returned a punt for a touchdown. Kyerston Tucker scored the final points of the game on a two-point conversion.
The Trojans improved to 3-2 on the season and will face the 1-4 McLaurin Tigers on the road as they open District play.
