The Magee Trojans remain winless after another tough game in which the Trojans fell to the Florence Eagles with a final score of 12-40.
The Trojans are continuing to find themselves and establish an identity as a team. Although the scoreboard has yet to show it, the team is growing each week.
Quarterback Kendal Middleton is settling into his role and is looking more poised as he looks to add consistency. Middleton has demonstrated how accurate he can be at times over the last three weeks. During this recent matchup against Florence he was able to connect with Christian Hubbard on slant routes over the middle and threw a well placed deep ball to Jeremiah Cole along the right side line.
Once this becomes a consistent factor in the Trojans’ offense it will take their game to another level. The team has also struggled to establish a solid rushing attack over the last two weeks. The offense will require improved offensive line play to create better opportunities for their running backs.
Defensively the Trojans have struggled, especially considering the standard that has been set in recent years. A big factor has been the line of scrimmage where there is a visible lack of push along the defensive line that has had a trickledown effect on the other two levels. The team is playing with effort and gaining valuable experience as they prepare for the heart of their schedule.
The Trojans will play Lawrence County on the road this Friday as they look to notch their first win. This team has two games remaining before they begin district play.
