The Magee Trojans won their first district game this past Friday against the Crystal Springs Tigers. It was a closely contested game but the Trojans were able to notch their second win in a row with a final score of 21-20.
The Trojans were off to a great start. Akavion Griffith was brought in as quarterback. Griffith hit Jeremiah Cole for an 81-yard touchdown early to give his team a 7-0 lead.
The Tigers were able to tie the game in the second quarter. Akavion Griffith gave his team the lead once again after a great pass to Antonio Floyd for a touchdown that made it 14-7. Crystal Springs responded, bringing the score closer after a touchdown, and missed extra point.
Leading 14-13 after the halftime break the Trojans began to lean heavily on their rushing attack. Ken Porter had an outstanding game carrying the ball. Porter led all rushers with 18 carries for 189 yards. A late touchdown from Jeremiah Cole on a 48 yard run sealed the game for Trojans.
Akavion Griffith was 6 of 14 passing for 136 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Trojans to an impressive district win. Ken Porter led in rushing with 18 carries for 189 yards and added two receptions for 10 yards.
Jeremiah Cole registered two touchdowns after leading the receiving corps with two receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown and adding one carry for 48 yards and a touchdown.
It was a great way to start district play and the Trojans will lean on this momentum as they face the Hazlehurst Indians this Friday at home.
