The Magee Police Department has charged two individuals in connection with separate shootings that occurred over the weekend, authorities announced Tuesday.
According to police, Zaccary Hall has been charged in relation to a shooting that took place Friday. Hall faces multiple charges, including shooting into a vehicle, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, shooting into a home or dwelling, and a local warrant. Officials say more arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
The Magee Police Department also investigated a shooting that occurred last Friday at Park Place Apartments involving multiple shooters. According to Magee Police Chief Denis Borges, one person was struck by gunfire during the incident. Several vehicles and one apartment building were also hit.
Borges said multiple individuals were detained as part of the ongoing investigation, and additional arrests are expected.
Chief Borges said, “We will not stop until everyone involved is behind bars.”
In the separate incident on Saturday evening, police charged Kenta Anthron McDonald with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm within city limits, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a stolen firearm.
A Saturday evening altercation in Magee ended in gunfire, leaving one person injured and McDonald in custody, according to the Magee Police Department. Authorities say the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on November 1, when an argument between two individuals escalated into a physical fight. During the altercation, one person was shot in the hand. Officers responded quickly after receiving a 911 call and were able to locate and apprehend the suspected shooter, McDonald, near the scene.
The firearm used in the incident was recovered as evidence. In a statement released following the incident, Magee Police Chief Denis J. Borges thanked the Simpson County Sheriff’s Department for assisting in both Friday’s and Saturday’s police responses.
“We stand united as one team with one goal: public safety,” Borges said.
Chief Borges also announced that residents should expect to see an increased law enforcement presence in the coming days. Additional safety checkpoints will be established throughout the area as part of the department’s ongoing efforts to prevent violence.
“Please ensure you have your driver’s license, proof of insurance, and are wearing your seat belt,” Borges said.
“I would rather listen to complaints of alleged harassment than hear about gun violence in our city.”
Magee Police are also coordinating with federal partners to ensure that anyone found in violation of federal laws will face prosecution.
“If you cause trouble in Magee,” Borges warned, “expect to meet accountability head on.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
Both cases remain under investigation, and the Magee Police Department continues to work with the Simpson County Sheriff’s Department and federal partners to ensure all individuals involved are held accountable.
Police Chief Denis J. Borges said over the weekend that residents can expect an increased law enforcement presence and additional safety checkpoints throughout the city as part of efforts to prevent further violence.
Magee Mayor Mark Grubbs released a statement saying, “I am deeply concerned about the recent shootings in our community. Chief Borges has the full support and cooperation of both myself and the board as he and the Magee Police Department work tirelessly to keep the city safe. The safety of our residents is nonnegotiable, and we stand united with our officers in protecting our community.”
