The City of Magee in partnership with Main Street Magee Association honored servicemen and women with a Veterans Day Parade on Tuesday, followed by a program and meal at the Community House.
In near freezing temperatures 19 entries made the parade route through Downtown Magee, including cruisers from Magee Police Department and Simpson County Sheriff’s Department, area fire trucks, Magee Army National Guard and veterans groups. Bands from Magee High School and their cheerleaders and Mendenhall High School walked the parade route while Mize High School Jazz Band entered a float.
Grand Marshal for the parade was Ret. BG Scott Hubbard, who first enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1981 serving in Magee. He graduated from Officer Candidate School in July 1991 and was stationed in Jackson, MS. He served two tours of duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2004-2005 and again 2009-2010. Hubbard retired in January 2021.
The program at the Magee Community Center included welcome remarks by Mayor Mark Grubbs, Simpson County Veterans Officer Holly Williams,who spoke on topics affecting veterans including suicide, and guest speaker CW03 Steven Carlson.
Restaurants and residents donated food for the reception.
