After 35 years of service with the Unites States Postal Service, Postmaster David Ware is retiring.
Ware has served as the postmaster of Mendenhall for the last four years. He shared that he got started with the postal service by accident after going with his brother to take a post office test. Before he knew it he was starting his first postal job in Mize, Miss., in 1987.
He started as a substitute rural carrier, worked his way up to clerk, and then went into management. He became a postmaster in 2001 and has worked in that capacity since then.
Ware said, “I really love the people. I love dealing with people and back when I first started, we were the only organization that could touch every family in America every day.”
Ware highlighted how the change in technology affected the postal service. He also said there is still a need for means of sending and receiving written communication.
Ware said, “I have been really blessed. I have always enjoyed dealing with people and making sure their needs were met. I’ve made a lot of friends along the way. The Lord has really blessed me with my postal work and I was able to work all these years and I’m looking forward to retirement.”
Ware is moving on to the next chapter in his life which includes spending time with his family, fishing, and taking on his new calling as a pastor.
