It was a tough night for the Simpson Academy Cougars, who were blanked 34–0 by the Copiah Academy Colonels last Friday. Despite moments of grit on both sides of the ball, the Cougars couldn’t find their rhythm against a disciplined Copiah squad that controlled the game from start to finish.
The Colonels jumped ahead early, capitalizing on field position and turnovers to build momentum in the first half. Simpson’s defense fought hard to keep the game within reach, with several key tackles in the red zone and a forced fumble late in the second quarter. But each time the Cougars seemed ready to turn the tide, Copiah’s defense answered with pressure that shut down Simpson’s offense.
The Cougars’ ground game was met with resistance all evening, and passing opportunities were limited by a strong Copiah secondary. A few bright moments came from the special teams unit, which delivered solid punts and good coverage, keeping the Cougars fighting for field position.
By halftime, the Colonels held a comfortable lead, and though Simpson Academy continued to battle through the final whistle, Copiah’s execution on both sides of the ball proved too much to overcome.
With the loss, the Cougars drop further in district play and will look to regroup as they prepare for next week’s matchup against Brookhaven Academy. The focus on fundamentals will be key moving forward.
While Friday’s result wasn’t what Simpson hoped for, the Cougars remain determined to turn things around. With several key district games left on the schedule, Simpson Academy still has an opportunity to regain momentum as postseason play approaches.
