Sammy Byther was arrested October 31, 2024 and charged with 2 counts of sexual battery following a probable cause hearing that was held yesterday (Oct. 30,2024) at the 13th district circuit court. This arrest stems from an October 5 2024 complaint made by a student at Mendenhall High School. The complaint at the time alleged inappropriate communication between Byther and a student, who was the wrestling coach and was in a position of authority.
The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating this complaint and evidence has been brought forward to support at least 2 counts of Sexual Battery against Byther. After the probable cause hearing, a warrant was issued for Byther and he turned himself into the sheriff’s office. Sammy Byther is currently being housed at the Simpson County Adult Detention Center and is awaiting an Initial Appearance in Simpson County Justice Court, which is scheduled to be held this afternoon.
