The Magee Trojans flexed their strength on both sides of the ball Friday night, defeating the Collins Tigers 35-14 at Trojan Field. The win pushed Magee to 3-1 on the season while Collins slipped to 1-3.The Tigers hung close in the first half, but Magee’s ground game and defensive pressure proved too much in the second.
The turning point came in the third quarter, when the Trojans exploded for three touchdowns in less than 12 minutes. With 11:45 left in the third, Magee capped a drive with a 29-yard touchdown run by Braeden Gregory to push the lead to 13-7. Just minutes later at 2:56 in the third, junior standout T.Y. Walker sprinted in from 20 yards out, and Von Magee barreled into the end zone on the two-point conversion to extend the lead to 21-7. With 0:43 remaining in the third quarter, the Trojans added another 7-yard touchdown run by Treveon McIntyre to make it 28-7 and put the game firmly in their control.
In the final frame, senior athlete Braeden Gregory sealed the victory with a rushing touchdown at 4:38, capping Magee’s scoring at 35-14.Collins managed a late touchdown, but the Trojans’ defense kept them from mounting any serious comeback.
Magee’s defense was relentless, racking up two sacks and two interceptions. Zyrenzo Hayes led the Trojans with13 tackles, continuing his dominant season.Connor Pittman nothced 10 total tackles, Jeionni Fairley piled up 10 tackles, while Nazja King contributed 7 tackles and half a sack. Gabe Jordan added a sack to the Trojans dominant defensive night. On the back end, Braeden Gregory and T.Y. Walker each snagged interceptions, turning defense into momentum-shifting plays.
With their second straight win, Magee is hitting stride at the right time, showcasing a punishing defense and a versatile run game. The Trojans will look to keep the streak alive next week when they host Franklin County.
